General FAQs

  • The venue for this tabletop RPG convention is Ye Olde Salutation Inn.

    This historic 15th century pub (which ancient caves beneath) is located at Hounds Gate, Nottingham NG1 7AA

  • You cannot park directly outside.

    However, there are plenty of multi storey car-parks nearby. You can also walk from the market square (5 mins) which links by tram to several Park and Ride facilities on the ring-road and also the train station.

  • When you have bought your ticket you will get an email asking you to rate your top three preferences out of the games still available that you would like to play. You can also choose one ‘Do not want to play’ game as well.

    We will then allocate places to try and ensure that you get spots on sessions that you will enjoy.

    Availability is limited on each session and you are not guaranteed to get a spot on any specific game, but we will try our best to make sure everyone is happy with their game plan.n text goes here

  • Unfortunately not - even if they are disguised as goblins! CaveCon is 18+ only, due to:

    1. The mature nature of many of the games on offer

    2. The event running beyond the time for which the venue is licenced for children on premises.

  • No, but the Salutation Inn serves hearty pub food (including a vegan burger). In addition, both Maid Marion Way and the city centre have many options, from sit down restaurants to sandwich bars.

    Please respect our hosts and don’t bring any external food or drink into the venue.

  • If you need to cancel your ticket, a full refund will be available up until two weeks before the event.

    The last day for full refunds is 23rd October.

    You can still get a half value refund up to a week before the event.

    The last day for half-value refunds is 30th October.

    After that, no refund will be available.

Cave-specific FAQs

  • Yes. The sandstone caves beneath Ye Olde Salutation Inn are a stable, historic venue used regularly for tours and events. Sessions are supervised, lit, and monitored throughout.

  • No. Of the five sessions in any specific time slot, only one takes place in the caves. The cave session will be clearly marked. Many of the special events will be held in the caves though. Even if you aren’t in the caves for a gaming session, you will still get the chance to experience the caves during the day.

  • Cool, dim, and atmospheric. Expect stone walls, low ceilings, lantern light, and a naturally echoing acoustic. It’s immersive without being oppressive.

  • The caves stay at a steady cool temperature year‑round with a little moisture in the air. A light layer (jumper, overshirt, hoodie) is highly recommended.

  • The caves are unevenly lit. You may find yourself seated next to a light, or in a dimmer area. We recommend having a small light or phone torch available to help you read your character sheets.

    Seating arrangements are comprised of a natural stone ledge/bench that runs around the side of the main cave. We recommend you bring something a little padded and insulated to sit on for extra comfort.

  • No. The underground gaming chambers used for CaveCon can comfortably fit the players. Some corridors are narrow, but the play space is not claustrophobic.

  • The caves can only be reached via stairs and uneven flooring. Unfortunately, this means they are not fully accessible for all mobility needs. Surface‑level sessions are available for anyone who prefers them. If you would still like to attend, both snugs are fully accessible and you can attend the sessions there. Contact us to discuss options.

  • Absolutely! You can step out at any time for air, a drink, or a break. Staff will guide you safely back to the surface.

  • Facilities are located upstairs in the main venue. You can exit the cave to use the amenities upstairs at any time.

  • Wear or bring clothing suitable for a cooler temperature.

    The seating is on stone benches, so something cushioned to sit on would be advised.

    Bringing a light or phone torch will help you to see character sheets in variable lighting conditions.

  • Yes!

    Please avoid using your flash during play. Don’t worry - the caves photograph beautifully without flash.
